I chose my blog handle as my first name and the class name to keep it simple. I'm usually the only Lorena in any of my classes, so I figured it would be a safe bet.
I am double majoring in psychology and justice studies and minoring in dance...it is a random combination but it came about purely out of interest so I hope to find a way to incorporate them all into a career. I'm a senior this year and I should be graduating in May. As far as future plans, I'm still looking at my options. I've been considering going into law school or getting my masters degree in education.
I chose this class because I find it empowering to learn and understand the injustices that women have experienced in the work force especially as a woman about to enter the work force.
I grew interested in justice studies after taking a 9 credit course which combined religious studies, woman's studies and justice studies concerning Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath. I quickly learned that the justice studies portion of the class which discussed FEMA's laughable response, racial discrimination and the slanderous media coverage was all based on injustice.
This leads me to believe that the idea of work, women and justice will also center on the injustices that women experience in the work force. These ideas cannot be separated because it has long been known that women have always been discriminated against and treated unfairly in the work force. I am really interested in learning about the ways in which inequalities that bring injustice to the workforce can be resolved.
